With support from The James Kane Foundation, pupils at St Patrick’s Primary School in Aughadarragh have benefited from a programme designed to increase access to high-quality STEM education in a rural community.
The project delivered hands-on workshops in coding, robotics and engineering, alongside an eight-week after-school STEM programme, giving children practical experience of digital technologies while developing problem-solving, teamwork and communication skills.
A key focus of the project was encouraging more girls to engage with STEM subjects, helping to challenge gender stereotypes and broaden awareness of future education and career opportunities in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
Funding also enabled the school to purchase dedicated computers and digital learning resources, creating a lasting STEM resource that will continue to benefit future pupils. Teachers and parents reported increased confidence, enthusiasm for learning and greater engagement among participants, with the project helping to reduce barriers to STEM education for children living in this rural community.
