With support from The James Kane Foundation, the Holy Trinity Foundation has launched the Futuremakers: STEM and Engineering Careers Programme at Holy Trinity College Cookstown . Delivered over two years, the initiative supports pupils in exploring viable careers in engineering, manufacturing, construction and agri-tech.
To date, 40 pupils from Years 12–14 have been selected for the programme, 40% of whom are eligible for Free School Meals and 12 pupils from minority ethnic backgrounds, successfully supporting diversity. This project is also aiming to increase female participation in Engineering across all year groups.
Funding has enabled early engagement with local employers through site visits and mentoring, giving pupils first-hand exposure to real-world engineering environments. Early feedback highlights increased confidence, a clearer understanding of STEM career pathways and stronger motivation to pursue related opportunities. The programme has also expanded to include Years 10–11 in selected sessions, widening its impact across the school community.
Although early days, its exciting to see this project already have an impact within the school environment.
