We were proud to support Innovate & Create: STEM Pathways, a fully funded, hands-on STEM learning programme delivered at St Mary’s Primary School, Aughnacloy.
Over six weeks, pupils took part in an engaging programme built around the Engineering Design Process, helping them develop a real understanding of engineering, construction, and manufacturing through practical, real-world learning. KS2 pupils worked in structured teams to research, design, build, test, and improve lean-to structures using construction materials and core engineering principles.
The programme was delivered by experienced STEM facilitators and supported by industry professionals, enabling pupils to clearly link classroom learning to real careers. A strong focus on industry engagement saw pupils take part in engineering activities connected to OHM Engineering, giving them insight into how design, problem-solving, teamwork, and safety operate in real working environments — and helping them see clear pathways from education to future employment.
Younger pupils across the school also benefited from exploratory STEM workshops, designed to spark curiosity, encourage experimentation, and build early confidence through age-appropriate, interactive science sessions.
A lasting legacy of the project was the design and construction of a full-scale outdoor lean-to structure on the school grounds. Designed by pupils and built as part of the programme, this new outdoor learning space will continue to support STEM learning, outdoor education, group work, and cross-curricular activity for years to come.
